Meet the Merchant: Green River URA/Main Street

Green River has been a Main Street Community since 2005 with a Nationally Accredited Main Street program.

Jennie Melvin has been the URA/Main Street Administrator for 3 ½ years.  She is a Wyoming native with three children and three granddaughters that are the apple of her eye.  As a family, they enjoy camping, boating and fishing.  Jennie loves to read, and enjoys music—especially in an outdoor venue.

The mission of the Green River Urban Renewal/Main Street Agency is to create a vibrant downtown and riverfront that is attractive and encourages economic development while preserving the historical character.  A healthy downtown attracts new businesses, creates jobs, and strengthens service and retail markets. By diversifying the business mix and recruiting new businesses, dollars that would be spent elsewhere are spent locally.

Main Street has a very successful Farmer’s Market that runs through the summer months.  They also host Movie in the Park, Rhythm and Rhymes, and Trunk or Treat just to name a few.

They also have a Façade Renovation grant available to businesses in the Main Street district. This program helps to spruce up the facades and give a fresh look to businesses.

The URA raises funds by selling cheese at the Farmer’s Market and selling their famous Green River Steak Sandwiches at events.  They are working on some new fundraising ideas, so stay tuned!!
