Rock Springs’ Buell and Green River’s Rhodes Win Winter Coach of the Year Honors

The Wyoming Coaches Association announced their Winter 2017 Coaches of the Year.  A couple of Sweetwater County coaches were honored for coaching success.

Rock Springs boys basketball coach Jason Buell won the honor as the 4A Boys Coach of the Year.  Buell took over the Tigers as the interim coach in December and proceeded to lead Rock Springs to a co-conference championship in the 4A West during the regular season.  The Tigers then won the 4A West Regional basketball championship and finished the year as the runner-up at the 4A State Boys Basketball Tournament.

Green River wrestling coach Marshall Rhodes was named the 4A Wrestling Coach of the Year.  Rhodes once again lead the Wolves to the top 4A state ranking for much of the regular season.  The Wolves finished second in the 4A West Regional Tournament and then proceeded to win their second straight 4A State Wrestling Tournament title. In March, Rhodes announced that he was stepping down from his head coaching duties but will continue his teaching position.
