Tigers and Wolves B’Ball Gets Ready For The Final Week Of The Regular Season

It’s the final week of the regular season for Rock the Springs Tigers and Green River Wolves basketball teams and, for some, a lot is riding on the results of play.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers will be busy as they play three games this week, all on the road.  On Tuesday, both teams travel to Jackson to play make-up games that had been canceled due to road and weather conditions.  Then both teams head to Casper for Friday and Saturday games.

The Tiger boys currently lead the 4A West with a 7-0 mark (11-5 overall), 1/2 game better than Casper Kelly Walsh (7-1, 14-3).  Because the top two places in both the 4A West and 4A East Conferences receive automatic berths in the State 4A basketball tournament, both the Tigers and Kelly Walsh are already in the State Tournament as neither can finish worse than second place. Third place Evanston already has four conference losses.

For the Green River boys (2-6, 8-10) the weekend games in Casper will be about gaining momentum heading into the 4A West Regional Tournament.  The tournament, played in Rock Springs March 2-4, will determine the final two State Tournament berths.

For the Lady Tigers and Lady Wolves, things are a bit different.  Both teams still have a chance of a second place finish in the 4A West Conference and that automatic State Tournament berth.

The Green River Lady Wolves (4-4, 10-9) are currently in third place in the 4A West behind Casper Natrona (8-0, 13-5) and Casper Kelly Walsh (5-3, 10-7) .  Natrona already has an automatic berth sewn up.  Green River would need to win both games in Casper and then hope Rock Springs also beats Kelly Walsh.  For the Lady Tigers (3-4, 11-5) it is pretty simple, they need to win all three of this week’s game to have any shot at the remaining automatic State Tournament berth.
