Raynaldo A. Maestas, 87, of Superior, Wyoming died on March, 6, 2017 at the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County. A longtime resident of Superior, Wyoming and former resident of Point of Rocks, Mr. Maestas died following a sudden illness.
He was born on July 7, 1929 in Taos, New Mexico, the son of Desiderio and Pablita Mondragon Maestas.
Mr. Maestas married Rose C. Maestas, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 1951. Their marriage was the first marriage to be blessed at the new St. Vivian’s Church on December 28, 1952. His wife passed away on March 6, 2016.
He was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Community and St. Vivian’s Parish, in Superior, Wyoming and he was a Golden Eagle member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #151.
He was employed for thirty eight years at Union Pacific Railroad and retired in 1988 as a section hand.
His interests included camping, fishing, rock hunting, gardening especially his strawberry patch. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and gambling.
Survivors include three son’s Bino Maestas and wife Diane of Rock Springs, Wyoming, Ray Maestas Jr. of Pensacola, Florida; Steve Maestas and wife Mary of Green River, Wyoming; three daughters Lourdes Abram and husband Patrick, Loretta Abram and husband Bobby both of Rock Springs, Wyoming, and daughter Lisa Nussbaum and husband Mark of Green River, Wyoming, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews .
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one daughter Mary Maestas; two brothers Tom and Elias; five sisters, Sarah, Emma, Dora, Flossie and Mary.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 13, 2017 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 116 Broadway, Rock Springs, Wyoming. A vigil service with rosary will be recited at 6:00 P.M. Sunday at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk Street, Rock Springs, Wyoming Interment will be in the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery. Friends may call at the Vase Chapel. one hour prior to the rosary and at the Vase Chapel, one hour prior to services.
