This event involves third-year law students at the University of Wyoming, with the assistance of real attorneys from the Spence Law firm, adjudicating a real-life historical event before a real judge and jury. This year, the legal teams will be trying the persons involved in the historic Rock Springs Massacre of 1885, and – for the very first time – they will take the trial on the road to the actual location of this notorious event.

This event is free and open to the public. The community is encouraged to see the event, featuring faculty and students from Western Wyoming Community College dressed in period clothing and playing some of the witnesses and jury members.

“The Rock Springs Massacre was one of the most notorious events in Wyoming’s territorial history. It also had national repercussions, and the social questions raised by it still echo today. The University of Wyoming, School of Law has, therefore, chosen this time as the perfect opportunity to adjudicate the culprits of the event – who, by the way, were never brought to justice in their own time. This event is one not to be missed!” said Dr. Mark Neels, Assistant Professor of History at Western.
