Area Fire Update: Roosevelt Fire and Martens Creek Fire

Fire crews gain some containment ground on the Roosevelt Fire south of Jackson yesterday.  According to fire officials the Roosevelt Fire is now 35% contained on the perimeter with just under 52,000 acres burned.  Over one thousand firefighters on scene with the support of 10 helicopters and multiple fixed wing aircraft.

Officials are now saying that 55 homes have been lost in the Hoback Ranches area with 95 residents saved.  Yesterday new evacuation notices were given to the areas of Jim Bridger Estate south to Merna and Horse Creek to Dry Beaver.

Highway 189/191 was opened to the public last night but may close again later today.

The Martens Creek Fire, east of Afton, is now reported 81% contained on the perimeter with nearly 6,500 acres burned and 347 firefighters on scene.
