March 5, 2022 — The Cowboys close the regular season on Saturday at 2 p.m. hosting Fresno State. Wyoming will honor its three seniors before the game, with Drake Jeffries, Hunter Thompson, and Hunter Maldonado being honored. All three are seniors, but all have one more season of eligibility due to NCAA COVID-19 policies.
The game will be broadcast on WyoRadio’s 99.7 JACK-FM and at 99KSIT.com beginning at 1:30 p.m. with tip-off scheduled for 2 p.m.
Both teams are looking to end the season on a positive note heading into next week’s Mountain West Conference Tournament in Las Vegas.
The Pokes head into today’s contest with a 12-5 mark in the Mountain West (23-7 overall) and will be the fourth seed at next week’s MW Tournament. The Bulldogs sit at 8-8 in league play (18-11 overall) and will be the tournament’s #6 seed. Wyoming will have an opening-round bye, while Fresno State will play an opening-round game next Wednesday night.
Cowboy wrestlers at Big 12 Championships
The Wyoming Wrestling team begins postseason action today at the Big 12 Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The tournament will conclude Sunday evening.
“It’s been a long and challenging season, and I think that has helped us clean the slate and helped us get focused on the team we are and put last year behind us,” said head coach Mark Branch. “I think now we’ve been able to focus on our strengths, and their training seems to be as good as it has been all year, and their confidence seems to be growing.”
This season the Cowboys have seemed to be peaking at the right time, winning their last four duals of the season, with their most significant margin of victory coming in the final dual of the season in a 25-11 win over West Virginia.
