Colorado Springs, CO (10/7/19) – Behind a late second-half goal by senior Summer Taube, the Wyoming soccer team defeated the Colorado College Tigers by a final of 3-2 on Sunday afternoon in Colorado Springs.
Wyoming upped their conference mark to 2-2 and 5-4-3 overall. Colorado College, a member of the Mountain West Conference in soccer, falls to 2-2 in conference and 7-4-1 overall.
Colorado College struck first. The Tigers scored with just 3:06 on the scoreboard. Wyoming would tie the match at 1-1 on an Abby Opperman goal at the 9:33 mark. The would-be all the scoring for both teams in the first half.
Colorado College would strike first in the second half taking a 2-1 lead, but in the sixty-ninth minute, the Cowgirls would capitalize off a corner kick. Senior Summer Taube would get a header by Junior Elle Webber would get a header by the Tigers goalie to know the match at 2-2.
The Cowgirls final and winning goal came with time winding down on a penalty kick by Taube.
“I’m really proud of the teams effort. They fought hard against a team that’s a quality five and well-coached,” head coach Pete Cuadrado said. “We had to adjust our game with a few people going down but to see players play different positions and have to move around. I was really pleased with the fight we had and the way we were able to keep going. It was next person up and proud of that. It was a great result for us on the road and helps us in the standings plus the next matches coming up. I’m looking forward to the next four matches at home ”
The Cowgirl’s next match is home against San Jose State (4-6-2, 2-2 MWC) on Friday, followed by Fresno State (6-3-2, 2-1-1) on Sunday.
