October 28, 2021 — The 2021-22 Wyoming Cowgirls open their season tonight with the first of two exhibition games. Tonight’s opponent will be Colorado Christian. The game will be broadcast on WyoRadio’s 1360/103.5 KRKK and streamed at 1360KRKK.com.

The defending Mountain West Tournament Champions were selected to finish fifth in the Preseason Mountain West Poll, announced earlier this month.

UW returns a trio of starters from last season’s squad in Tommi Olson, Alba Sanchez Ramos, and Quinn Weidemann. UW also returns its leading scorer from 2020-21 in McKinley Bradshaw, who averaged 11.7 points per game last season, while mostly coming off the bench for the Cowgirls. Six other Cowgirls also return.

Tonight’s contest will not count on the season record. The last time these two teams met was a regular-season 2019-20 season-opener. The Cowgirls won that game in Laramie, 70-31.

The Wyoming volleyball team lost to New Mexico last in Albuquerque, 25-21, 25-23 and 25-19. The loss dropped Wyoming to 5-6 in the Mountain West and 13-10 overall. New Mexico is 7-4 in the MW and 16-6 on the season.

The Cowgirls will be at Air Force Saturday afternoon.

Cowgirl Soccer

On Thursday at the Madrid Sports Complex, Rilee Castilla punctuated her Cowgirl career in the best way possible. The Kennewick, Washington, product produced a goal in a 3-1 victory over rival Colorado State.

“It was my goal to get a goal before I left, and I just saw (the ball) sitting right there and followed it in, and honestly I was in shock it went in,” Castilla said. “I can say that will definitely be my favorite Wyoming memory.” Redshirt-junior Jamie Tatum accounted for the other two UW scores.

The victory concludes Wyoming’s season at 4-7 in the Mountain West and 8-10-1 overall. Colorado State falls to 6-7-3 overall and 5-5-1 in league action. The Rams will advance to the conference tournament.
