October 25, 2021 — The University of Wyoming soccer team’s struggles on the road continued Sunday. The Cowgirls fell to Utah State 3-0 in a game played at Ute Field, on the campus of the University of Utah, due to poor field conditions at the Aggies’ home field in Logan.
The loss drops UW to 7-10-1 overall and 3-7-0 in Mountain West Conference play. The win improves Utah State to 12-4-3 overall and 5-3-2 in league action.
Senior midfielder Rilee Castilla came off the bench to pace Wyoming with a pair of shots. Four other Cowgirls accounted for one shot apiece.
Wyoming finishes up the regular season at home Thursday, hosting Colorado State on Senior Day.
Wyoming Head Coach Chad Callihan earned his 100th career Mountain West victory Saturday night in Laramie as his Cowgirls swept past San Diego State, 28-26, 25-19, and 25-14.
The Cowgirls, now 13-9 on the season and 5-5 on the Mountain West, weathered the storm early from the Aztecs (6-16, 3-7 MW) as UW faced set point in the opening set at 25-24. However, the Cowgirls would respond with four of the next five points to survive the first set and went on to control the rest of the match.
Wyoming looks to maintain its hot stretch, winning five of its last six matches. UW travels to face New Mexico (15-6, 6-4 MW) on Thursday before facing Air Force (5-15, 2-8 MW) Saturday in Colorado Springs. The Cowgirls swept both the Lobs and the Falcons in Laramie last week.
