March 8, 2022 — The No. 6 seeded Colorado State Rams used a strong fourth quarter to down the No. 3 seeded Wyoming Cowgirls, 51-38, Monday night in Las Vegas to possibly end the season for the 15-12 UW ladies. The Cowgirls will now hope for an invitation to a post-season tournament.
Colorado State advanced to the tournament’s semi-finals where they will meet No. 2 seeded New Mexico. The other semi-final will feature No.1 seed UNLV playing No. 5 seeded Air Force.
“You have to give credit to CSU,” Wyoming Associate Head Coach Heather Ezell said. “They came out, and they defended, there’s no doubt, in those last six minutes. We had good looks at the basket and just couldn’t get anything to fall. You feel like if one of those goes in, we start going, and it starts rolling for us. But unfortunately, none of them did.”
Wyoming led 35-32 going into the fourth quarter, but the Rams would outscore the Cowgirls 19-3 in the final quarter, including scoring the game’s final 14 points, to secure the win 51-38.
Senior Tommi Olson paced Wyoming with 10 points. McKinley Bradshaw added nine points and five rebounds.
Wyoming finished the game connecting on just 25 percent (15 of 60) of its field-goal attempts. That included a 20 percent (4 of 20) shooting night from 3-point range.
