Las Cruces, NM ( 8/26/19) – The Wyoming women’s soccer team closed out the weekend with a 1-1 draw against the New Mexico State Aggies Sunday in Las Cruces, New Mexico. It was the Cowgirls second tie of the early season as they played to a 2-2 score on Friday night at UTEP in their season opener.
As in their Friday match in El Paso, Wyoming would score first on Sunday. Sophomore Amber Vokoun, off a corner kick, got the Cowgirls on the board with a goal from fellow sophomore Indianna Asimus at the 5:22 mark. The 1-0 Wyoming lead would be how the first half would end.
New Mexico State would tie the match at 1-1 around the 70-minute mark when the Aggies’ Alexa Barrera got it past Cowgirl sophomore goalie Hannah Lee to make it 1-1.
In the first extra ten minutes, NMSU had chances around the 93 and 96-minute marks with Wyoming having a goal look at 96:41 on the clock which also came up empty. The next ten minutes proved to be unsuccessful for either squad to get a score and the game ended in a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes.
“I thought the effort was good, given the conditions with the heat,” head coach Pete Cuadrado said. “We played everyone today that we were planning on and created a few more chances for ourselves today. It was a little frustrating to score then have them respond and not get the win”.
Wyoming (0-0-2) will host its season home-opener on Wednesday against the Northern Colorado Bears.
