Cowgirls Start Play Today in Tiger Turkey Tipoff


Laramie, WY – The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team is in Stockton, California today competing in the University of Pacific-hosted Tiger Turkey Tipoff. The Cowgirls will face North Texas this afternoon at 1:30 p.m. and then play host Pacific on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.

The 2-1 Cowboys enter today’s game led by senior forward Marta Gomez who is averaging 15.0 points per game to go along with a Mountain West-leading 3.7 made three-pointers per contest. Freshman Quinn Weidemann is shooting 60.0 percent (9-of-15) from deep while chipping in 10.3 points per game. Junior Taylor Rusk is scoring 11.0 points per contest on an incredibly efficient 61.9 percent (13-of-21) shooting from the field.

The Mean Green of North Texas are 1-2 early on the season.  They are led by Terriell Bradley, who averages 14.0 points per game and has taken a team-high 12 free throws. Trena Mims averages 12.3 points per contest while chipping in 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.

The Cowgirls and North Texas have only met once on the hardwood. In 1983, Wyoming took a 56-55 decision from the Mean Green in Manhattan, Kansas during a tournament hosted by Kansas State.
