Washington, D.C. – After the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced its Cheyenne taxpayer assistance center closed earlier this month, U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., sent a letter protesting the closure and requesting it be reopened.

In the letter, sent to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig, Enzi wrote he is troubled by the closure and asked that the IRS reopen the office as quickly as possible and, if necessary, bring in temporary personnel until full-time employees can resume normal operation.

“Closing an IRS office at any time creates problems for the taxpayers in my state,” Enzi wrote. “But it is particularly burdensome when it occurs during the filing season – and the first one after our comprehensive tax reform – when folks continue to learn how to comply with new tax changes.”
