LARAMIE, Wyo. (Aug. 5, 2018) – Wyoming women’s soccer played its preseason Brown and Gold game on Sunday afternoon at the IPF (Indoor Practice Facility). It was originally scheduled to be played at the Louis S. Madrid but was moved due to the inclement weather. The Gold team struck early in the third period to hold on to a 1-0 victory.
The intrasquad match consisted of three 25-minute periods. It remained scoreless between the two teams after the first 50 minutes. Junior Michaela Stark had a scoring opportunity at the 52:52 mark, but her shot was saved by freshman Alex Daws. Six minutes later with 58:24 on the clock, she would connect with a giveaway in the box from the right side to put the Gold team up 1-0. Neither team was able to put another shot in the net as the Gold squad went on to the 1-0 victory.
“It was a good start,†head coach Pete Cuadrado said. â€We still have a lot of work to put in before our first exhibition on Thursday against UCF.â€
Each team finished the match with five shots apiece. Daws had one save and one goal, while junior Cristina Salazar had one save in the net.
The Cowgirls will play in their lone exhibition match of the 2018 season this Thursday against UCF Knights in Orlando, Fla. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. MT.
