Laney Rim Fire Now 72% Contained

For the second day in a row, fire crews were able to make good progress on the Laney Rim fire burning approximately 25 miles south of Rock Springs.  According to BLM officials, the fire, which has burned roughly 13,200 acres, is now 72% contained.

Starting today, wildland firefighters will focus on the northern section of the fire strengthening fire lines, mopping up hot spots and providing suppression if necessary.

Crews will also continue to monitor and patrol other areas of the fire to ensure fire lines remain strong. Rehabilitation of county roads and dust abatement operations will also begin on Friday.

There are still 137 firefighters on scene.
