Laney Rim Fire Now At 85% Containment


Fire crews continue to monitor the Laney Rim fire buring 25 mile to the south of Rock Springs, as well as patrol fire lines.  BLM officials are now saying the fire is 85% contained. The only areas considered not contained are in steep difficult terrain.

Fire crews have not seen any indication of significant fire activity even though gusty winds were present throughout the fire area.  The fire area is still at 13,198 acres with 117 firefighters on the scene.

Rehabilitation of county roads and dust abatement operations will continue today.  The Southwestern Type 3 Incident Management Team, Incident Commander Ziegler and Incident Commander Trainee Wengert are beginning preparations to turn the fire over to a Type 4 team in the next 24-48 hours.
