ROCK SPRINGS, WYOMING (December 28, 2020) – The COVID-19 vaccine Moderna should be shipped to Sweetwater County this week, according to Kim Lionberger of the County Public Health.

As of Monday, there have been 975 doses of the Pfizer vaccine that has been shipped. Most of the doses is at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County, with some at Castle Rock Medical Center and the public health.

Lionberger said that there is not a mandate for this vaccine at this time. However, Dr. Jean Stachon, the county public health officer, said that those who have been vaccinated still need to wear masks and follow health orders. She said they will receive a second dose in coming weeks.

So far, there have been no bad reactions to the vaccine. One health official said that they monitor the person vaccinated for the following 15 minutes to make sure there is no bad reactions.

While there have been reports that the number of active cases have dropped throughout the county and the state, Sweetwater County remains in the “dark red” area of the scale throughout the state, according to Stachon.

The three counties with the most active cases throughout the state are Sweetwater County, Laramie County and Campbell County.

There are 220 active cases in Sweetwater County. In total, there have been 2,900 cases and 19 total deaths. However, the death total is unofficial as four of them have not yet been confirmed by the state.

“Things looking brighter in the future,” Stachon said, noting that more people are following health orders and there are more immunizations.

She anticipates Governor Mark Gordon to come out with more health orders after the current health orders end on Jan. 8. Stachon anticipates similar health orders to continue until the end of Spring.

She will be meeting with Dr. Alexia Harrist, the state public health officer, on Wednesday
