February 5, 2022 — Cowgirl guard Tommi Olson scored only three points in the entire game, but those three came at just the right time. Olson drilled a buzzer-beating 3-pointer Saturday afternoon at The Pit in New Mexico as the Wyoming Cowgirls upset league-leading New Mexico 60-59. Olsen’s basket ends a comeback that saw UW trail by 13-points in the fourth quarter.

Wyoming is now 5-5 in the Mountain West (9-10 overall). New Mexico falls to 10-2 in the conference (19-6 overall). UNLV at 9-1 is now the league leader. The Rebels will play at Utah State tonight.

The Cowgirls scored the final eight points of the game, capped off as Quinn Weidemann found her roommate Olson for her career-high eighth assist.

The first half ended with the Cowgirls holding a 28-27 lead. The game was tied at 42-42, going into the final quarter. New Mexico would open the quarter with a 13-0 run to take what appeared to be a commanding lead. But the Cowgirls would chip away, decreasing the Lobo lead to 59-55 with 2:30 to play, eventually setting up Olsen’s heroics.

Allyson Fertig led the Cowgirls in scoring with 19 points along with 18 rebounds. McKinley Bradshaw added 16 points.

Wyoming will return home to face San Jose State (1-9 in the MW, 4-17 overall) this Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on WyoRadio’s 136-/103.5 KRKK and 1360KRKK.com.
