ROCK SPRINGS, WY – Western Wyoming Community College’s Department of Anthropology and History hosts Dr. Phil Roberts as he presents “John Wesley Powell’s Arid Lands Report” on March 21st at 7PM in room 1302.
In conjunction with the 150th anniversary of John Wesley Powell’s 1869 Geographic Expedition, which embarked from Green River Station, Dr. Roberts – Professor Emeritus of History at the University of Wyoming – will speak on the importance of Powell’s expedition, and his Arid Land Report.

“John Wesley Powell is one of those unique and dynamic figures in our state’s history. In many ways, his explorations and geological observations liberally helped to put Wyoming and the American West on the national map in the late nineteenth century. Dr. Roberts, one of our state’s greatest historians, is well suited to speak on this subject; and what better time for this presentation than the 150th anniversary of Powell’s expedition?” said Dr. Mark A. Neels, Assistant Professor of History.
