Tim Robinson and Alan Zanetti of Rocket City Street Racing made a presentation last night at the Rock Springs City Council meeting.

The presentation involved drag racing in Rock Springs. The mentioned racing area would be on Stagecoach Dr., west of Sweetwater Dr., and would head west towards Summit Dr. The course would be 1/8th of a mile. Robinson and Zanetti set forth their plan to the council and outlined it. One of their supporters is the Rock Springs Police Department, who has endorsed the possibility of drag racing.

One of the topics discussed was having the racing done legal, which would help lower illegal street racing that takes place. The RSPD would be involved with the events. Robinson, who is also a Training Sergeant with the RSPD said they would help with the coordination of the events, traffic and crowd control, coordination with the city, and all aspects of safety.

The events hosted by Rocket City Street Racing would take place one day in June, July, and August. The events would take place on a Saturday afternoon during daylight hours. Robinson was thinking the events would last six hours, though that time is not definite. Parking and spectating would be at Stagecoach Elementary.

Many residents came and voiced their support and disapproval of the proposed drag racing. Some concerns included safety, noise, damage to streets, racing in city limits, and insurance, among other things.

No final decisions were made at the meeting and more discussion will take place in the near future. A unanimous vote was made to have a public hearing put on the agenda for the next council meeting.
