ROCK SPRINGS, WYOMING (July 30, 2021) – Friday night is the first performance of the Rocky Horror Picture Show at Broadway Theater in Downtown Rock Springs.
The doors and mischief open at 6 p.m. with the play beginning at 7 p.m.
Director Kenneth Starling, who is also portraying the character of Frank Furter, is thrilled to put on a show for everyone to come out and enjoy.
“I’m so freaking excited. I actually just moved here so this is my first production with the Actor’s Mission and in Rock Springs. Even during auditions, it brought out a ton of diverse folks of different ages, different ethnicities, different body types. We were actually able to cast everyone who auditioned,” he said.
The play is a fundraiser for the Actor’s Mission, a local nonprofit that is dedicated to open auditions and provides opportunities for the community to participate in theatrical experiences and to enjoy a diverse range of stage genres. All proceeds from the show will benefit their building fund.
This will be Starling’s fifth time performing the classic play that originally written and directed by Richard O’Brien. His favorite part of it is the message.
“There’s a point where Frank Furter looks out to the audience at everybody and says, ‘Don’t dream it. Be it.’ That resonated with me when I first saw it when I was like 8 years old. It’s been close to my soul ever since. It helps people find their individuality and understanding that they are individually sexy. You just got to be confident behind it,” Starling said.
The second performance will be on Saturday, July 31, beginning at 7 p.m.
Broadway Theater is located at 618 Broadway St. in Downtown Rock Springs.
