ROCK SPRINGS, WYOMING (November 15, 2021) — The Rock Springs High School Speech and Debate team is searching for judges for their upcoming Tiger Classic Tournament, taking place this Friday and Saturday, November 19 and 20.

Read more about the tournament, and how you can help as a judge, below:

[From the Rock Springs High School Speech and Debate team:]

“The Rock Springs High School Speech and Debate team is excited to be hosting their annual Tiger Classic Tournament, in person, at Rock Springs High School this upcoming Friday the 19th and Saturday the 20th. After a long online season due to COVID-19, we are excited to be seeing friends and fellow competitors from all over the state. Starting Friday morning, teenagers in suits will descend upon Rock Springs High School in what is anticipated to be the largest tournament that Rock Springs has hosted in nearly decades. Rock Springs currently has 20 schools from Wyoming and Colorado signed up to attend with nearly 500 entries! Hosting a tournament is a huge fundraiser for the Speech and Debate team, but we can not host a tournament without the help from our community.

How Can I Help?

There are only a few things that are needed to host a tournament:

  1. Have competitors
  2. Have a place for them to compete at
  3. Have someone to judge

We have the competitors, we have a place for them all, now we just need YOU to judge. We are currently shy of judges needed in order to run our tournament smoothly and on time. If you are interested in judging, please fill out this Google Form, https://forms.gle/d4vRYGLPc4DWG7JE6. In the form, you can choose an available time slot (or a few) and any events that you are interested in judging. We will send you a schedule for judging before the tournament so you know what you are judging and when.

Don’t have experience with Speech and Debate? That’s okay! There is no experience necessary to judge, but we do offer judge clinics to anyone that may want an extra boost in confidence for judging. We currently have two clinics scheduled for Monday (15th) and Tuesday (16th) at 6:30 pm in the Library at Rock Springs High School. The same information will be presented at both clinics. If you are unable to attend either of the clinics, but would still like the information, just arrive at the high school 30 minutes before your scheduled round and we will have one of our team members give you a rundown. We can’t do this without YOU.

Rock Springs High School will also be hosting the Wind River District Speech and Debate meet at the end of the season, March 17th-19th. Judges will be needed for that tournament as well and more information will be available at a later date. Districts is the meet that determines who will be attending the National Speech and Debate Association Nationals tournament, which will be held in Louisville, Kentucky this year. Rock Springs High School qualified the entire team, 12 competitors,  to last year’s tournament, which was held virtually.

If you have any questions about the Tiger Classic or the Wind River District meet  please feel free to contact the Rock Springs High School Speech and Debate team through their Facebook account or to  Head Coach Stephanie Cozzens directly at [email protected]. GO TIGERS!”
