Sweetwater County Sheriff Mike Lowell passed along on Thursday a notification from the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) about a paving project on Interstate 80 between Wamsutter and Rawlins.

A project to mill and repave a roughly 10-mile section of I-80 near Creston Junction will begin next week, resulting in traffic pattern changes for drivers. The work will happen in the westbound lanes between mile markers 186 and 199, which includes the Creston Junction interchange (Exit 187, Wyoming 789.)

Beginning Monday, April 10, workers will start constructing the crossover ramps for the project, which will result in daytime lane closures. In June, westbound traffic will be diverted to the eastbound lanes in a two-lane configuration. Speed limits will be reduced in the construction zone while work takes place.

Lewis and Lewis is the contractor for the $6.9 million project.  The work will improve I-80 for motorists and is one of several projects WYDOT has along the I-80 corridor this year.

A future project will mill and repave the eastbound lanes in the same area. That work is scheduled to happen in the coming years. Questions about the project can be directed to WYDOT resident engineer Aaron Spenny at [email protected].
