Smithsonian Magazine Lists Rock Springs As One of 15 Best Small Towns To Visit

Rock Springs WY (6/10/19) – What do Avalon, California, Le Mars, Iowa and Rock Springs, Wyoming have in common?  All three made the list of Smithsonian.com’s “15 Best Small Towns To Visit In 2019” article.

The article appeared on the Smithsonian Magazine web site on June 6, 2019.  According to the article, “…our “Best of 2019” have a compelling reason to visit this year in particular. Qualifying towns have populations of under 25,000 that “embrace community, reflect hometown pride, and have their own unique offerings…”

Some of the items pointed out about Rock Springs included the city’s railroad and coal mining history, how Butch Cassidy earned his nickname in Rock Springs by working in a local butcher shop, the Broadway Theater, Community Fine Arts Center, our cultural diversity, and International Days.

The article also talks about Western Wyoming Community College Natural History Museum, the Wild Horse Scenic Loop, the Flaming Goerge area, Killpecker Sand Dunes, and neighbor, Green River.
