Cowboy basketball starting up today/Cowgirls practice started Tuesday

September 30, 2021 — The Wyoming Cowboy basketball team start their practice sessions today. The Cowboy’s return 9 lettermen and three starters from last year’s 14-11 team. This year’s team will also feature six newcomers.

“During the summer and fall with 15 players, we were able to have great workouts,” state head coach Jeff Linder. “We are very pleased with the progress we have made. We are definitely making strides in the right direction.” Linder is starting his second season as the Cowboys head coach.

The Pokes had planned to have a scrimmage this Saturday in Sheridan, but that has been canceled due to Covid-19 protocols within the program. Their scheduled trip to Storey Gym in Cheyenne on October 9 is scheduled to take place. 

The Cowboy basketball season starts November 10 against Detroit Mercy.

The Wyoming Cowgirls started their basketball practices on Tuesday.

The Cowgirls are coming off a season where they won their first-ever Mountain West Tournament and made only the second appearance in the NCAA Tournament in the program’s history. They return ten letterwinners, including a trio of starters in Tommi Olson, Alba Sanchez Ramos, and Quinn Weidemann. The Cowgirls also return leading-scorer McKinley. The Lyman sophomore averaged 11.7 points per game while mainly coming off the bench.

The Cowgirls are scheduled to have a practice session in Rock Springs on Saturday, October 9, at Western Wyoming Community College.

The Cowgirls open their season with exhibition games against Colorado Christian on October 29 and Colorado-Colorado Springs on November 5. Their season-opening game is November 9 at home against CSU Pueblo.
