LARAMIE, Wyo. (Jan. 24, 2019) – The Cowgirl and Cowboy swimming and diving teams are set for their final dual meet of the season against UNLV on Saturday. The meet is scheduled for 12 p.m. MT at the Buchanan Natatorium in Las Vegas.

“The UNLV meet has always been a great rivalry for our program and our men and women both usually step up and compete well against them,” head coach Dave Denniston said. “It will also help to give us a clearer picture of who we will take to the conference meets.”

The Cowgirls will have a quick turnaround as they face their second conference opponent in as many duals after taking on Boise State last Saturday. Junior Daniela Luna Rocha will look for a repeat performance as she swept the distance events against the Broncos. Senior CeeJay Harris will also look to put up a strong performance after earning Mountain West Diver of the Week honors for the first time in her Cowgirl career after a first-place performance in the 1-meter. As a team, the Cowgirls will look to add one more dual meet victory to the record this season coming into the week with a 9-3 dual mark and 2-1 in the MW.

“The men really love racing and this is something they always look forward to and hopefully they are going to step up and race fast,” Denniston added.

For the Cowboys, it will be a return to action after last competing in a set of double duals the first week of January. UW notched a record of 2-2 knocking off Incarnate Word 148-113 and also earning a conference victory over the newest member of the WAC California Baptist, 163.5-136.5. This meet serves as the last chance to compete prior to the league championships and will be a good test for both teams involved since it will include the WAC Champions in the Cowboys and the runner-up in the Rebels from a season ago.

The Mountain West Conference Championships will take place Feb. 20-23 in Minneapolis, Minnesota while the WAC Championships will be held Feb. 27-March 2 in Houston, Texas.
