Rock Springs, Wyoming — In a special board meeting Tuesday evening, The Sweetwater County School District #1 Board of Education voted unanimously to authorize the District Facilities Department to award the bid to Shepard Construction Inc. for the Overland School project. The site will house the Head Start program beginning in the 2022-2023 school year.

The meeting agenda states that the bid amount is for $1,205,568.00 plus a 20% contingency of $241,113.60, for a total amount of $1,446,681.60. It also states that this is part of the $3,741,791.00 estimated budget for renovations, and that it will be funded through a grant, District Capital Construction and Major Maintenance funds.

Chairperson Carol Jelaco inquired about the number of classrooms the school will hold.

Dan Selleroli, Director of Facilities, informed the board that the school will have 15 classrooms, plus some offices. Walls between classrooms, which are now retractable, will become permanent.

Each classroom will have a restroom in the corner where the retractable wall will become a permanent wall. There will be a restroom on each side in the classrooms.

“The actual amount of renovation that we are doing is the bathrooms,” said Selleroli. “When you total up all the square footage of the restrooms, it is less than 2400 square feet.”

“We will have some room to build as we look at building that program and maybe even looking toward an additional pre-k,” said Jelaco.

The board then moved into executive session.
