The body of one of two missing men in Yellowstone has been recovered

September 21, 2021 — Yellowstone National Park search and rescue crews located the body of one missing person while a second person is still reported as missing.

The body of Mark O’Neill, 67, from Chimacum, Washington was located Monday, Sept. 20, along the east shore of Shoshone Lake in Yellowstone National Park. His half-brother, Kim Crumbo, 74, from Ogden, Utah is still missing.

Search and rescue efforts continue with 10 crew members on foot in the area today, Sept. 21. A Grand Teton National Park interagency ship and crew are also assisting with air operations.

Both men were reported overdue by a family member on Sunday, Sept. 19, from their four-night backcountry trip to Shoshone Lake.

Both O’Neill and Crumbo are National Park Service (NPS) retirees, and Crumbo is a former Navy Seal.

The incident remains under investigation.
