With the recent announcement that Tronox plans to sell its Alkali business, including the plant west of Green River, the bidding process is expected to begin soon.

David Caplan, Director of Corporate Communication at Tronox, noted the local plant went through a similar process about two years ago when FMC sold the plant. During that sale process, a list of interested buyers was created, and Caplan said some of the same parties may show interest again.

He said the company is interested in a buyer who will recognize the long-term value of the business.

“It needs a company who will come in and invest and know where the long-term value is,” said Caplan. “It’s a very good industry and it’s a very well-run company, and I think we’re optimistic for the future.”

Caplan said they have pledged to keep Tronox employees informed as to what is happening in the buying process, and for right now it’s business as usual.

“This is a good business for the long-run, and it’s here to stay,” said Caplan.
