This Veterans Day, American Legions in Rock Springs and Green River will pay homage to the community’s veterans.
Veterans Day in Rock Springs:
The American Legion Archie Hay Post 24 will commence with three repeat ceremonies. The first one is at 8:05 a.m. at the post, located at 551 Broadway Street. A round of blank cannons will be fired during the ceremony. Around 8:35 a.m., the ceremony will be repeated at the Rock Springs Cemetery, located at 800 Thompson Street in Rock Springs. Another blank round of cannons will be fired. Again, between 9:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., the same ceremony, including the blank cannons, will commence at Veterans Park, located at 100 North Side Belt Route. The public is welcome to attend.
Around 11:00, during a more somber ceremony, a brand new columbarium will be dedicated to veterans. The public is welcome to attend this event, also.
A drive through Veterans Day fried chicken lunch will be supplied by Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. tomorrow, November 11.
In Green River:
At 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 10, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) 2321 will be putting up flags at the cemetery’s veterans plot.
On Veterans Day, Thursday, November 11, VFW 2321 will be collecting donations while handing out poppies at Smiths in Green River and Smiths in Rock Springs.
