The Rock Springs City Council voted 7-2 against Rocket City Street Racing having drag racing on Stagecoach Drive earlier tonight at the scheduled city council meeting.

More discussion was made prior to the vote as City Attorney Richard W. Beckwith brought forth his concerns regarding liability issues with the racing. Beckwith talked about RCSR hiring an attorney to help with protection, as he felt they should not vote to approve as he did not support it.

After further discussion ended, City Councilor Rob Zotti made a motion to table it instead of voting on it until they reviewed it further. It did not receive a second and the motion died.

City Councilor David Halter made a motion to approve the street racing, with an agreement with Beckwith to have it, “contingent upon the racing association being able to provide insurance and protections that would satisfy the city.” The wording of the motion was constructed by Beckwith wanting it to be a part of vote if it did pass. Zotti seconded the motion, but they would be the only two councilors that would vote in favor of the drag racing. Mayor Timothy A. Kaumo, councilors Keaton D. West, Tim Savage, David Tate, Jeannie L. Demas, Billy W. Shalata, and Glennise Wendorf all voted no.

Comments were made about a possible workshop, as well as talking with the Sweetwater Events Complex to help RCSR move forward in regard to drag racing.
