Western Wyoming Community College recently received a $5,000 donation from Rocky Mountain Power in support of their new Powerline Technology Program. Western Wyoming Community College offers the only Powerline program in Wyoming. Employment opportunities are available with rural electric cooperatives, municipal and private utility companies, private contractors, and many others.

“On behalf of Rocky Mountain Power, we are committed to the Powerline Technology program, not only by providing this financial assistance but in working with Western’s staff in their recruitment/outreach efforts to educate potential students about the careers in our industry,” said Ron Wild, Rocky Mountain Power’s regional business manager. “We couldn’t fulfill our goal of safe and reliable operations without a strong employee base. Programs like this help us fulfill that promise.”

Course material and lab activities are based around the application and theory of distribution and transmission of electrical power. Fieldwork includes operating a digger derrick truck, setting poles, climbing poles, installing anchors, and stringing conductors. A Class A CDL is a graduation requirement for this program.

Western’s President Dr. Kim Dale said, “Rocky Mountain Power has been an integral partner in supporting the development and success of the newly created Powerline Technology program – a program that will lead the industry and our students directly into high-demand/high-growth careers. This donation is a great example of how our partners commit to the success of the program.”
