Wild Horses, Another Majestic Creatures To View

Wild horses have long been one of my favorite things to look for while out in the open spaces we have here in Wyoming.

A few month ago I had the opportunity of working on an article where I was able to shadow the Bureau of Land Management on the release of wild horses for a joint study they are doing with the University of Wyoming. This was a very enjoyable trip in the Adobe Town area just south of Wamsutter. Not only was I able to get outdoors and view some country I had never seen before, and no cell service, I was able to enjoy something many take for granted. I was able to view wild horses in their natural environment.

One of my lifelong passions has been to drive out in the middle of nowhere and just sit and watch these majestic animals. Although they are not native to the area they provide great viewing opportunities. For a tank of gas and a few hours out of my day, I can take a short drive and I’m almost certain to find at least one small herd.

In fact the county has a really great self guided Wild Horse Loop Tour that starts just north of town and winds it’s way to Green River. I have made the loop many times and have never been disappointed. There are multiple stops along the way with each having their own little history tidbit. And being above Rock Springs, it makes for some great photo opportunities.

So the next time your looking for a fun easy trip to take with the family. Load up the car, and take a trip out to the desert and view these amazing animals. And while you are at it snap a picture or two. You won’t be disappointed.
