Local News:

**** Last night, the Rock Springs City Council unanimously approved to formally declare the recent flooding a disaster and state of emergency. According to Rock Springs Mayor Tim Kaumo, last night’s City Council vote is the first step in the process of going after Federal Emergency Management Agency grants. The second aspect is assessing the number of homes that were affected. According to Rock Springs Fire Department Chief Jim Wamsley, there have been 59 citizens who have reported to the City that their homes were affected by the recent heavy rains.

 

**** According to the Wyoming Department of Health’s daily report, Wyoming’s total number of COVID-related hospitalizations jumped up to 83 Tuesday. That is the highest statewide total since January 19. However, just two of the reported hospitalizations were here in Sweetwater County. Casper’s Wyoming Medical Center leads the state with 19, followed by the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center with 17.

**** Wyoming’s Big Show opens its main gates today at 10:30 a.m., with the carnival starting up at noon. Tonight’s Concert After Dark will feature the rock band Queensryche at 8:30 tonight. In addition, 4H/FFA Swine, Sheep, and Goat shows will also be taking place.  A complete listing of today’s here.

**** Due to the fair going on today, there is no Dip, Dodge, and Splash happening at the Century West Park pool. Both the Blairtown and Washington pools will be open today, but remember both those pools will be closing for the season after Saturday’s session. Also, the is no Concert in the Park tonight in Bunning Park due to the fair. That concert series will start back up next Wednesday. The Farmers Market in Green River will take place today from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Sports:

**** The Rock Springs Civic Center Programs Flag Football registration continues until August 10th. The program is for first through third-grade students. Fees are $35 per child and include a jersey. Registration is taking place at the Civic Center. Play & practice are on Tuesdays & Thursdays, beginning August 19th to September 23rd at the Wataha Recreation Complex.
