Local News:

**** Yesterday afternoon, Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon stated he is committed to standing behind local school districts making their own decisions on students being required or not required to wear face coverings on their return to the classroom. The Governor stated he would not implement a school mask mandate. Schools in Sweetwater County will start up on August 17 for District #1 and August 18 for District #2.

 

**** State Health Officer Dr. Alexia Harrist stated Wednesday that most new COVID cases in the state are linked to the Delta variant of the virus. On Wednesday afternoon, 187 new COVID confirmed cases were reported in Wyoming by the Wyoming Department of Health. The state’s number of reported Delta virus cases was listed at 1,754.

**** Wyoming’s Big Show will once again open its main gates at 10:30 this morning, but the carnival won’t start up until 5 p.m. Tonight’s Concert After Dark will feature county artist Frankie Ballard at 8:30. Also, the 4H/FFA Beef Show will begin at 10 a.m., team roping at 5 p.m., and the 4H Dog Agility and Rally at 6 p.m. Click here for a complete listing of today’s events.

**** The Rock Springs Main Street Market will be in session today from 4 to 7 p.m. on South Main Street. Also taking place today will be the free Concert at the Clock Tower in Green River. Eddy Delbridge will be performing beginning at 7 p.m.

Sports:

**** The University of Wyoming women’s soccer team opened their fall practice camp yesterday with an intrasquad scrimmage. The Cowgirls will open their soccer season on August 20. Tomorrow morning the Wyoming Cowboy football team will open their practice sessions for the 2021 season. The Poke’s first game is at home against Montana State on September 4.

**** The Rock Springs Civic Center Programs Flag Football registration continues until August 10th. The program is for first through third-grade students. Fees are $35 per child and include a jersey. Registration is taking place at the Civic Center. Play & practice are on Tuesdays & Thursdays, beginning August 19th to September 23rd at the Wataha Recreation Complex.
