Wyo4News Mid-Day Recap: February 17, 2022


February 17, 2022 — Here is a recap of this morning’s top Wyo4News local stories.

**** Eastbound I-80 is closed from Rock Springs Exit 111 to Cheyenne. Westbound I-80 is closed from Cheyenne to Laramie. The rest of westbound I-80 is slick to slick in spots. There are also reports of black ice on both east and westbound I-80 between Rock Springs and Evanston. All other area roads are slick to slick in spots.   

**** The Wyoming Game and Fish Department announced the 2022 Wyoming Super Tag raffle raised a record amount of $1.6 million for conservation. Two Wyoming residents and nine out-of-state residents were selected as winners of the fundraiser.

**** On Wednesday, the University of Wyoming Board of Trustees vote to end mask requirements at most indoor spaces at the University of Wyoming effective this Monday. The board voted that masks will only be required in campus offices when requested by the office occupant, for employees in UW’s Early Care and Education Center, and in medically related units. Masks also will continue to be required on UW Transit Service buses, in accordance with federal rules.

**** The last night of in-person registration for Rock Springs Little League Baseball will take place tonight at 6:30 at the C Street Library in Rock Springs. Online registration will end on February 25.

**** Time is running short to sign up for this Saturday’s Jackalope Jump fundraiser for Wyoming Special Olympics. The event will take place on Saturday at noon at the Fishing Lake at the Wataha Recreation Complex in Rock Springs. Online registration is still available on the Rock Springs Police Department Facebook page. On-site registration is also available beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday for teams or individuals. Saturday’s weather should cooperate with the forecast calling for sunny skies and high in the mid-40s.


**** The 2022 Wyoming Cowboy football schedule was released yesterday. The Pokes will play 12 games next season, with six being at home. The 2022 season will have an early start of August 27 when Wyoming travels to the University of Illinois. See the complete schedule at WyoNews.com.

**** In Wednesday area high school basketball, the Farson-Eden boys defeated Cokeville 55-20 while the Cokeville girls defeated Farson-Eden 52-16. Tonight, in area basketball, the Green River Wolves and Lady Wolves travel to Evanston while Lyman will host Pinedale.

**** Green River and Lyman will begin competing this afternoon at the 3A Wyoming High School Boys’ Swimming and Diving State Championships in Gillette. Championship swims will take place Friday morning. Rock Springs will compete in the 4A Championships beginning Friday afternoon, also in Gillette.

****  The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team travels to Colorado State tonight. The Cowgirls are currently riding a four-game winning streak. Broadcast time is at 5:30 p.m. on WyoRadio’s 1360/103.5 KRKK and at 1360KRKK.com. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. The Wyoming Cowboys will host Air Force Saturday afternoon.
