Local News:

****  Mostly sunny with a small chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms this afternoon, evening, and Friday. High near 90. Saturday and Sunday will be sunny with light winds with a high of 93 on Saturday and 95 on Sunday. Here is your seven-day forecast.

 

**** According to the Bureau of Reclamation website, Flaming Gorge Dam has gradually increased its water release in response to basin-wide drought and storage concerns at Lake Powell, in Nevada. As of yesterday, the daily average release from Flaming Gorge Dam will increase from the previous 860 cubic feet per second to just over 1,300 cubic feet per second by July 23. The Bureau estimates that July, August, and September forecasted unregulated inflow volumes of water into Flaming Gorge will be significantly below average each of those months.

**** City crews in Green River will be closing the boardwalk portion of the Green River Greenbelt this Monday morning. That portion is under the Uinta Bridge heading east. The estimated closure is expected to be about two hours as workers will be staining the boardwalk, weather pending.

**** The 4th Annual Ride for the Patch Poker Run is coming up tomorrow. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. at the Pour House on 9th Street in Rock Springs, with kickstands up at 10 a.m. Any highway-legal vehicle is welcome to participate. A fund-raising auction will follow the poke run at 5 p.m. Monies raised will benefit injured oil field workers.

**** The Archie Hay Post 24 American Legion in Rock Springs is collecting clothing and other essential school needs for a giveaway event occurring July 24 and 25 at the Post. New or gently used clothing can be dropped off at the Post on Broadway until 6 p.m. on Monday, July 19.  In past years, the local group Four Moms did this school clothing drive but cannot do it this year, so Post 24 stepped in.

**** Tonight, the Green River Parks and Rec Department will present a showing of the movie “Maya (My-ah) and The Last Dragon.”  The free movie showing will take place at Centennial Park beginning at 9 p.m. Those attending need to bring their own chairs and blankets.

 

Sports:

**** The American Legion “C” State Baseball Tournament will continue today in Rock Springs. The tournament is for players 15 years and younger. Yesterday, Rock Springs lost their opening game to Gillette. Today, they will play Powell at 1 p.m. A total of eight teams are competing in the tournament at the Wataha Sports Complex.
