**** According to a press release from the Wyoming Department of Administration and Information, Wyoming saw an increase in employment in the second quarter of 2021 compared to 2020. The state saw an increase of 9,700 jobs in May, with most of the vast majority coming in the leisure and hospitality sector. On the flip side, construction jobs decreased by 1,600 and mining jobs by 1,300 compared to last May.
The report also showed the oil and gas rig count in the state at 10 compared to 1 last June. The April 2021 year-to-date figures showed production of coal was down 3%, oil production was down just over 17%, and natural gas withdrawals decreased by 10.% compared to last year.
**** Cheyenne Frontier Days starts up today, and big crowds are expected. Officials reported ticket sales up 70% compared to 2019 for rodeo performances and up nearly 50% for the night shows. Frontier Days will continue through Sunday, August 1. Last year’s event was canceled due to the pandemic.
**** Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County has announced another drive-thru vaccination clinic will be taking place next Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m. The hospital said more than 30 people were vaccinated at last Wednesday’s event.
**** According to the latest data for the Wyoming Department of Health, the number of statewide COVID-related hospitalization was listed at 70 on Thursday, that the highest that number has been since January 27. Nearly half of those hospitalizations were shown to be at the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County was listed with three hospitalizations.
**** The Green River Knights will open play at the Wyoming American Legion Class A State Baseball Tournament on Saturday in Cheyenne. The Knights will open play against the Cheyenne Hawks Saturday evening. The Rock Springs Stallions will begin play at the Double-A State Tournament on Monday in Laramie when they face the defending state champion Cheyenne Sixers.
