**** Sweetwater County’s May unemployment rate dropped to 6.7% compared to April’s 6.9%. The county’s May 2021 rate is considerably lower than the 9.8% unemployment rate experienced in May 2020.

The Research & Planning section of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services is reporting the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held steady from April to May at 5.4%, which is lower than the current U.S. unemployment rate of 5.8%.

**** The Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office has released details of their recent annual sweep of registered sex offenders in the area. In total, 96 of 104 registered sex offenders were verified to be in compliance, two were verified non-compliant, two remain under active investigation, and one non-compliant registered offender was arrested. The compliance check was done with the assistance of the U.S Marshall’s Service.

**** The Sweetwater County Commissioners will be picking a replacement for the Sweetwater County treasurer position on July 20. Longtime Sweetwater County Treasurer Robb Slaughter’s retirement letter was accepted by the Commissioners on June 15. Since Slaughter was elected to the position as a Democrat, the Sweetwater County Democrat party must submit three replacement nominations to the Commissioners for their consideration by July 16.

**** Dip, Dodge, and Dash will be taking place again today from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at Century West Park in Rock Springs. The Blairtown pool will be closed today, but the Washington pool will be open.

**** Tonight’s free Concert in the Park will feature the band Wanted, playing a mix of country and rock. The concert in Bunning Park begins at 7 p.m. Remember to bring your own chairs and blankets.

**** The Green River Downtown Street Fair is coming up this Saturday near the historic Train Depot on Railroad Avenue. The event will run Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will feature a variety of vendors plus live music from various bands starting at 11 a.m.  The event is being put on by the Green River Urban Renewal/Main Street Agency.
