March 7, 2022 — Here is a recap of this morning’s top Wyo4News stories.
**** After a weekend of snowy winter weather, we have a springtime event coming up this Sunday morning. Daylight Savings Time will occur at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 13 as we spring ahead one hour.
**** Local gas prices continue to increase, but they are still much better than the national average. According to the website Gasbuddy.com, as of early this morning, the price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas in Rock Springs and Green River was between $3.59 and $3.69. Newcastle was shown to have the lowest price in the state at $3.38, with Evanston close behind at $3.39. AAA is reporting the national average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas is $4.06. Prices are over $5.25 per gallon in some California locations.
**** Coming up Wednesday evening at the Broadway Theater, Lightwire Theater will present a performance of “The Ugly Duckling.” The performance will feature a blend of puppetry, electronic technology, and dance. The Wednesday performance will be a 7 p.m. with tickets available at rsdowntown.com.
**** This past Friday and Saturday’s Rock Springs Miners semi-pro hockey games at the Family Recreation Center in Rock Springs had to be canceled due to COVID-19 related issues. But, the team’s games with Bozeman Stingers this Friday and Saturday are still on. Games both nights are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
**** The Rock Springs Family Recreation Center has posted a Facebook notice that they have several fitness watches that have been turned in. If you are missing yours, stop by the front desk and identify and claim yours.
**** The Wyoming Cowgirls will start their quest to repeat as champions of the Mountain West Conference Tournament in Las Vegas. The Cowgirls are the #3 seed this year and will take on #6 seeded Colorado State tonight at 9:30 p.m. Last night, CSU beat San Jose State 82-43 in their opening-round game. The Cowgirls and the Rams spilt their two previous meetings this season. Tonight’s game will be broadcast on WyoRadio’s 1360/103.5 KRKK and 1360KRKK.com beginning at 9 p.m.
Also, congratulations to the Cowgirls McKinley Bradshaw for being named to the All-Mountain West team.
Wyoming Cowboys basketball will open their Mountain West Conference Tournament play on Thursday afternoon against UNLV.
**** Wyoming Cowboy wrestler Steven Buchanan won the 195-pound division of the Big 12 Wrestling Championship in Tulsa, Oklahoma Sunday evening. Buchanan was the top seed in his weight class entering the tournament. Buchanan, along with Wyoming’s Jacob Wright at 157 pounds and Hayden Hastings at 174 pounds earned automatic bids to the NCAA Wrestling Championships taking place in Detroit March 17-19.
