Local:

  • Big Boy is coming back to Rock Springs today. According to Union Pacific, the historic locomotives No. 844, known as “Big Boy”, and No. 4014 are scheduled to arrive in Rock Springs around 12:45 p.m. this afternoon.  The locomotives will also be arriving with a railroad traveling museum.  More information here.

 

  • On Tuesday, Commerce Bank of Wyoming will once again be hosting their annual Community Shred Day. The free event will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Commerce Bank parking lot, 1575 Dewar Drive in Rock Springs. More information here.

 

  • The Community Fine Arts Center and the Broadway Theater in Rock Springs are presenting “The Divas Through the Decades” on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. This will be a musical tribute to some of the most influential female vocalists in American pop music, featuring songs from the ’40s, through today’s current hits.   • Awards and accolades for years of service were part of National Hospital Week celebrations at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County. Sweetwater Memorial scheduled the celebration May 6-10 to coincide with Nurses’ Day, which was May 6. More information here.

 

  • The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees will interview three candidates for the office of acting president of the university during an executive session this Wednesday. The candidates are Chris Boswell, Bill Mai, and Neil Theobald. More information here.

 

  • An iconic Green River landmark has been chosen as one of 18 historic structures in Wyoming being recognized during May’s Historic Preservation Month by the Wyoming Business Council and the Alliance for Historic Wyoming.​ Records at the Sweetwater County Historical Museum in Green River show that construction began on what is now The Brewery in Green River, in 1899. Sports:

  • Rock Springs High School track and field team members Cole Gocih, Favour Wanjoku, Zach Geffre and Courtney Smith all won individual championships at this past weekend’s 4A West Regional Track meet in Casper. The Lady Tigers 1600 Meter Sprint Medley team also won their event.  Green River’s Marcus Valerio won the regional championship in the Boy 32-hundred meter race.  More information here.
  • The Rock Spring Tigers and Green River Wolves track and field teams wrapped up their 4A West Regional Track Meet Saturday in Casper.  Rock Springs won individual crowns as well as one relay while Green River had one individual champion.  More information here.
