Jose Francisco Saavedra

Jose Francisco Saavedra, 74, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2022 at the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.  He died following a sudden illness.  Mr. Saavedra was a resident of Rock Springs, Wyoming for 46 years and a former resident of La Sauceda, Michoacan de Ocampo Mexico.

He was born May 7, 1947 in Ario de Rayon, Michoacan, Mexico; the son of Luis Saavedra – Ochoa and Maria Angelina Vaca – Cervantes.

He married Maria Dolores Herrera on October 10, 1971 in Ario Santa Monica Michoacan, Mexico.

Mr. Saavedra worked for Superior Lumber for 35 years as a Laborer.  He worked for Bloedorn Lumber for 10 years until his retirement in July 2015 as a Laborer.  

He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Mr. Saavedra was an avid soccer fan.  He liked to enjoy nature from his front door.

Survivors include his wife Maria Dolores Herrera Saavedra of Rock Springs, Wyoming; three sons, Luis Saavedra of Rock Springs, Wyoming; Juan Saavedra of Rock Springs, Wyoming; Jose Saavedra and wife Sharalee of Evanston, Wyoming;  two daughters, Laura Saavedra of Rock Springs, Wyoming; Maria Villalpa and husband Pedro of Lehi, Utah; one brother; Raul Saavedra of Evanston, Wyoming; two sisters, Lupe Echeverria Saavedra of Evanston, Wyoming; Luz Tapia Saavedra of Evanston, Wyoming; 14 grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; several cousins; nieces; nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Veronica Saavedra and one daughter who died in infancy; three brothers, Juan Saavedra; Jose Saavedra; Ramon Saavedra, his paternal grandparents; maternal grandparents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 17, 2022 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church,116 Broadway, Rock Springs, Wyoming.  A Vigil Service with Rosary will be recited at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, January 16, 2022 at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk Street, Rock Springs, Wyoming.  Internment will be in the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery.
