4A West Regional Basketball Tournament begins tomorrow

January 28, 2024–Rock Springs and Green River’s regular season for high school basketball ended last week. This week, the 4A Regional Basketball Tournament will be held at Green River High this Thursday through Saturday. Games played in the double-elimination tournament will be played at Green River High School and Lincoln Middle School. Teams finishing in the top four spots in the girls’ and boys’ tournaments will advance to next week’s 4A Wyoming State Basketball Championships in Casper.

4A West Girls Tournament

The Rock Springs Lady Tigers, the Northwest Quadrant #2 seed with a 3-3 record (10-12 overall), will face Evanston (3-3, 3-17) in their opening game.

The Green River Lady Wolves (3-3, 8-13) are the #2 seed from the Southwest Quadrant. Thursday, they will face the #3 Northwest seed, Casper Kelly Walsh (3-3, 10-12).

Other opening-round girls’ tournament contests will have Star Valley playing Riverton and Cody facing Jackson.

4A West Boys Tournament

Green River will open the boys’ tournament as the #4 seed from the Southwest Quadrant and face county rival and the Northwest #1 seed Rock Springs in an opening-round matchup. Rock Springs finished the regular season with a 4-2 record in the Northwest Quadrant record (9-14 overall), while Green River was 1-6 in the Southwest Quadrant play (7-13).

The other boys’ opening games have Start Valley playing Casper Kelly Walsh, Riverton meeting Evanston, and Jackson taking on Cody.

Loser out and championship semi-finals will be played on Friday, with the consolation and championship games played on Friday.

4A East Regional Tournament

The 4A East Regional Tournament is being played on the same dates in Sheridan, featuring girls and boys teams from Cheyenne Central, Cheyenne East, Cheyenne South, Thunder Basin, Campbell County, Casper Natrona, Laramie, and Sheridan.
