According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, the peak wind gust yesterday at the Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport in Rock Springs was 60 mph. But that was far from the highest in the state. A gust of 99 mph was registered on the Chief Joseph Highway near Yellowstone, and a gust of 97 mph was recorded in the Red Canyon on Highway 28 in Fremont County.

Here’s some good news. We will not be as windy today in Sweetwater County, but strong winds will still be blowing in the central part of the state today, including the I-80 corridor between Rawlins and Laramie. That section of I-80 is expected to have Extreme Blowover Risk Warnings posted for most of the day. The Rawlins area is expecting winds to 40 mph today, with Laramie and Cheyenne winds at 30 mph. Casper is forecast to have wind gusts near 50 mph today and continue through Friday.
