ROCK SPRINGS, WYOMING (October 12, 2021) — The Rock Springs Family Recreation Center (RSFRC) gym, which was being refinished, is scheduled to reopen Friday, October 22. The walking track above the gym will open this Thursday, October 14.
The gym closed in mid-September after groundwater from sprinklers came in through the wall. Because of the water damage, some of the boards were sticking up and had to be replaced. Three-quarters of the first basketball court is now fresh, new maple wood.
“We’ve got new fresh lines for all the basketball, volleyball, and pickleball courts,” said RSFRC Superintendent, Robyn Rasmussen. “Now we are just waiting for the five layers of sealant to dry.” The last layer was put down on Friday, October 8, and needs two weeks to cure.
Custodians are working hard to remove the dust from the track so that walkers may return to their routines. However, the air is still a bit pungent from the varnish, so some walkers may not be ready to hit the track. Die-hard basketball players will surely be happy to hop back onto that beautiful, shiny court.
