Green River Police Officers have received a report of a phone scam in which the caller claimed to be from Rocky Mountain Power.

The scam was reported Wednesday afternoon by a business which recognized the call as a fake and did not lose any money from the scam.

The Green River business received a call from someone claiming to be from Rocky Mountain Power and was told they had 45 minutes to pay the bill before power was turned off. Because the business was current on their bill, they recognized the call as a scam.

The website Good4Utah.com reported on Tuesday that similar scams have been occurring in Utah with some calls even showing up on caller ID as from ‘Rocky Mountain Power’.

Green River Public Information Officer Luke Benson said this is the first reported Rocky Mountain Power scam call this year, but notes two businesses received similar calls last year.

Anyone who receives such a call should not provide any personal or financial information, hang up, and contact Rocky Mountain Power to verify their account status. Rocky Mountain Power can be contacted via telephone at 1-888-221-7070. Customers can also log into their account online to see if they are delinquent on their bill.
