February’s Simplot Games canceled

January 18, 2022 — Citing the current rise in the number of cases of the Omicron COVID-variant the organizers of the Simplot Games have decided to cancel this year’s event. The indoor track and field meet, which attracts top high school athletes from 19 states and foreign counties, was scheduled to take place between February 17-19 at Idaho State University.

The announcement that was posted on the Simplot Games Facebook page reads: To all of our disappointment, the 2022 Simplot Games have been canceled due to the recent increase of the Omicron variant. We are sad to make this announcement but we know it is the right thing to do for the athletes, their communities and our community. In past years, many Sweetwater County and surrounding county high school athletes have competed in the event.
